This collection documents the activities of the Italian-American Institute to Foster Higher Education at the City University of New York from its inception in 1978 to its closure in 1983. As a precursor to the John D. Calandra Italian-American Institute, the Institute was charged with re-mediating Italian-American discrimination and stereotypes through the promotion of higher education among Italian Americans. The work of the Institute was structured into three distinct but mutually cooperative divisions: Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Community Affairs.
The collection contains correspondence, office papers and publications, reports, newsletters, meeting minutes, events and conferences planning materials, and other materials documenting their work.
